The Beijing Motor Show is one of the most important auto shows. As all other events of this kind, the one at Beijing this year was a great opportunity for carmakers to show their new vehicles, car concepts and designs. That’s what Volkswagen did at the Beijing Motor Show 2012. The leading international carmaker unveiled its new version of the compact car Lavida.
The car made its debut at Auto China 2008 in Beijing being the first mass produced Volkswagen compact car. It was mainly designed by Volkswagen’s Chinese partner and based on Volkswagen Group PQ34 platform. The engine options of the first generation Lavida included the 1.6 liter version or the 2.0 liter variant.
Lavida 1.4 TSI Sport was introduced at Auto Shanghai 2009. Next year, in 2010, Volkswagen unveiled the e-Lavida concept car at Auto China 2010. This year, the carmaker took the occasion of Beijing Motor Show as opportunity to unveil a new variant of its Lavida.
The new Lavida gets a contemporary design as well as a redesigned fascia that make it similar to the Passat. The new model is more luxurious and comes with more safety features that include ESP, ABS and front air bags.
This low cost Lavida will come in three engines variants we now have no details about. Lavida has been sold in more than 700,000 units since the car’s launch in 2008. Volkswagen has taken lead in the A-class market in China and tries to keep that momentum going with the new Lavida.
