Starting with 2013, the Volswagen group will increase the hybrid model serie. The first to be launched is the plug-in hybrid for Porsche Panamera S and Porsche 918 Spyder.

Beginning with 2013, the Volkswagen group wants to expand the hybrid propulsion model serie. It is a segment that will increase, the german group believes, and for starters it will target its premium customers. The first models on the list are those of the Porsche brand. Porsche will launch plug-in Hybrid versions for the Panamera S and 918 Spyder models. The information was confirmed by the Rudolf Krebs, head of the group’s electric cars devision.

Starting with 2014, Volkswagen Golf will receive a plug-in hybrid version, then the VW Passat, Audi Q7, Audi Q3, Porsche Cayenne, Audi A6 and Audi A8 models will follow shortly after. The plug-in hybrid models are part of the long term strategy of the Volkswagen group, added Krebs.

It seems that Volkswagen chose the right path, the recent IHS Automotive study suggests that till 2018, the sales for the plug-in hybrid models will increase eight times.
