If a used one isn’t for you, now’s the time to get money off a new Mk6 Golf
Three letters that could become your best friend. They stand for ‘Modularer Querbaukasten’ (or ‘Modular Transverse Matrix’), but you just need to know that they are your passport to a discounted Volkswagen Golf Mk6.
The Golf Mk7 goes on sale in November, which means that dealers are keen to shift stock of the current model. Needless to say, VW has been as clever as ever in running down production, but there are still enough on the forecourts for the pressure to be on to shift stock.
At present, there’s a mismatch between the best purchase and the best lease deals, with outright buyers getting the best offers on petrol models and those wishing to buy in instalments getting the pick of the diesel models.
Private buyers should look at the broker sites. Drivethedeal.com has a variety of savings on petrol Golfs, with the 1.4 TSI Match five-door available for Ł15,607; that’s Ł3592 off list price.
Hunt around and there are some savings to be had on the GTI, too, with broker4cars.co.uk getting closest to the Ł25,000 mark with a Ł3154 saving.
A quick scan of whatcar.com’s leasing deals section reveals that the bulk of the offers are on 1.6 TDI 105 Match five-door models, which are typically available for Ł287 per month over 36 months, following the payment of a deposit of around Ł800. However, at that price you are restricted to 10,000 miles a year. So, as ever, be sure to pore over the small print before committing.
